This is one of the most important things you can do. Interior designers not only have an eye for colour but they understand how it will work in your home. You may love a particular shade on a paint chip but your designer can tell you how it will look on an entire wall or how various shadows and light in your home are going to affect that colour.
2.Choose taste over trends.
Colours go in and out of fashion all the time. Remember those bright fluorescent colours of the ‘80s? If a certain shade of blue, grey, orange or whatever is the flavour of the month, don’t simply choose it for that reason. Ask yourself if you really LIKE that colour. Since most people don’t renovation very often, you’ll want to select colours that you can enjoy years from now.
3.Take baby steps.
Maybe you love colour but you’re not quite ready to select a non-traditional hue for your hallway carpeting or your living room walls. If you love colour – but it still makes you kind of nervous – then take baby steps. Choose colourful accents that are inexpensive and easy to change such as throw pillows and vases. If you are a little braver perhaps a colourful sofa or sectional. Take small steps to start and before you know it you’ll be ready to make those larger colour commitments.
